What happens when you strip away most of the comforts of modern living, and instead choose to rebuild how you want to live from scratch?
I’m about to find out.
In January 2021, I moved out of my cushy condo in Portland, Oregon, and headed to ten acres of raw land in western Maine.
…with only a passing knowledge of how to homestead…
Think of it like a midlife crisis as an art project.
My fascination with learning and an intuitive guidance system have led me far and wide in both experience and skills. In the past, I’ve rebuilt a 1970 Volkswagon Beetle, co-produced a music album, and spent weeks in high school writing with my left hand, just because it bugged me that I wasn’t ambidextrous.
And now I’ll be digging a well, building an outdoor shower, and figuring out how to poop in the woods.
I do hope you’ll join me for some of the journey.
